Scranton is not so bad. My fiance sister lives there, it is a dying city with many different cultures making this a great melting pot community. Now that PA has finally allowed slot parlors, the city is doing much better ( creating over 3,000 new jobs). It doesn't have lots to do at night. The weather can be cold and snowy for much of the winter making it tough to get to and from work. Depending where you are from this might be not so bad. Not to far away from NYC for nice day trips. Eat some Homemade perogies you'll love em.

It's overall much safer than a big city, but here's the relative low-down: The Hill Section near the University of Scranton and the hospitals is kinda dangerous. The downtown area's kinda rough, and South Side has really gone downhill quite a bit. Property values are really low, though. You can get a house for less than a car, but it isn't exactly an investment that will increase in value much, if you ask me. The city government is in poor shape financially. The pluses: great small family-owned restaurants, it's close to Philly and NY, and I'm sure there must be something else, but as an escapee, I can't come up with it.

Watch "the office" which is based in Scranton. Doesn't look like fun, but that doesn't mean it's not nice.

Scranton can be kind of depressing, it's a dying industrial city.
