This was the topic of our family discusion at dinner tonight. It raised many arguments amongst my family members. I know the definition from the dictionary so please don't argue that point with me anymore. My family members age 49, 14 and 14 say it is some one who saves some ones life. A cop who is killed in the line of duty is not a hero, a soldier who dies in Iraq is not a hero unless a life was saved. I say different. Your opinions please.

A Hero is a selfless act of conscience, because its the right thing to do, regardless of the consequences. Compassion shows character, which lifts us up from animals.

A hero could be one who saves someones life. But a hero is also a cop or a soldier because they are fighting for our lives whether one dies are not they are protecting others and helping other. A hero could also be someone who has done great things in their life. Like think of Opera she is a hero to all those kids that she build that 4 million dollar school for. Some people may say shes just a rich talk show host but to some she is a hero. I think theres lots of heros out there.

In my opinion, a hero is really an unnoticed warrior who fights for what he believes. I say invisible because he does not make himself be known, he is silent and wise and seeks to help others when he can.
He has beliefs and ideals and strives to fallow them without seeking glory or fame. He believes that everything should be protected and does his best to make it so without thinking about himself.
He doesn't think about himself because he is unable to feel happiness for himself and only finds joy in the happiness of others.
A compassionate and good man but loyal to only what he believes in and he will judge what he thinks is the best course of action. He is also someone to look up to like a big brother/sister to everyone what he can.
He also has a dark personality hiding behind his kid heart, he is a very enigmatic mind and a calculated thinking made by logic and heart.
That is my definition and my greatest wish is to become a hero.

A hero is anyone who gives their life for another. This includes policemen and firemen and the military because they don't go into these jobs to die, they go to keep the order and protect citizens, but sometimes things go wrong and they die. Anyone who works a dangerous job or does the dirty work that others won't do is somewhat of a hero. A sports figure or celebrity is NOT a hero. They are self centered and do everything for their own gain. In many ways garbage collectors are heros in the sense that they keep us from drowning in our own garbage and disease. One day without trash pickup in a major city and you notice it, whereas if an accoutant misses a day of work, no one notices.

To me a Hero is a verb- it defines a type of person; willing to stand by their beliefs, moralities and have the bravery to help others if necessary. To volunteer their personal property, safety and life if necessary to a worthy cause. To be bigger than a problem or a danger- that covers a lot of wonderful people-unfortunately we don't hear enough about them. I suppose those arguing with you wouldn't define those who "boated" others to safety repeatedly after Katrina as Heroes, or those who teach the unfortunate or untrained for free or those who volunteer hundreds of hours as heroes? They are!

I was a 'hero' last week when I helped an old man stuggling to get his grocery bag into his car. Anyone who helps/teaches people (and even animals).
