Discount = original price * percent off
Total price = original - discount
Put those together and you get:
Total price = original - (original * percent)
525 = x - x*0.25
525 = 0.75 x
700 = x

Let X be the original price of the vacation. After a 25% reduction, a vacation is on sale for $525.
X - .25X = 525
The original price minus 25% of the original price equals $525.

Define a variable, X, as the original price of the vacation. This is what you are solving for.
X * (100%-25%) = $525, discounting subtracts 25% of the price from the original price.
=> X * 75% = $525, reducing the parenthetical
=> X = $525 / 75%, solving for X by dividing by 75% on both sides
=> X = ???, I think you can do this part :)

525/3=x
x*4=original price
if you are reducing a price by 25%, or 1/4, the reduced price is 3/4 of the original price. dividing the reduced price gives you 1/4 of the original price, which you can then multiply by 4 in order to get the full orignal price.

After the reduction, the price was 75% of the original value.
Start * 75/100 = finish -OR- Y = 0.75X
525 = 0.75X
525/0.75 = X
X = $700

I guess just use a simple equation to solve it.
525 525
x0.25 +131.25
_____ THEN _______ 626.25 is the answer
131.25 626.25
