The Grateful Dead were an American psychedelia-influenced rock band formed in 1965 in San Francisco. The band was known for its unique and eclectic songwriting style—which fused elements of rock, folk music, bluegrass, blues, country, jazz, psychedelia, and gospel—and for live performances of long modal jams.[1] "Their music," Lenny Kaye wrote "touches on ground that most other groups don't even know exists."[2]

The Grateful Dead's fans, some of whom followed the band from concert to concert for years, were known as Deadheads and were renowned for their dedication to the band's music.[1] Many followers referred to the band simply as The Dead.

The Grateful Dead became the de facto resident band of Ken Kesey's Merry Pranksters, with the early sound heavily influenced by LSD-soaked Acid Tests, as well as R&B. Their musical influences varied widely with input from the psychedelic rock of the era, combined with blues, jazz, rock and roll, and bluegrass.[1] These various influences were distilled into a diverse and psychedelic whole that made the Grateful Dead "the pioneering Godfathers of the jam band world."[3]

RUSH.

Let me say it again:

RUSH.

Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson, Neil Peart.
Great bassist, good guitarist, Fanfrickintastic drummer.

Good lyrics, blazing solos (just get a version of The Rhythm Method from the Show of Hands CD and bow in admiration), good musical sense. And the live shows are so well produced! I've seen them only once, but i would love to see them every time they go on tour!

Permanent Waves and Moving Pictures are easily the most technically complete records from a three-man band. In terms of class, only Cream would come close to these three. And Cream had Clapton in it, so you do the math!

Tie between ACDC and Parliament/Funkadelic

I know theyr very different groups but I listen to so much music!

ACDC -- they've been around before I was born and continue to be MASSIVELY popular. Theyv always stuck to the same formula of blues-based hard rock, but man it works every time.

I've always loved blues music above anything else and ACDC hits just the right spot with me! Also many of my friends enjoy it, so its "social" music.

Favourite song: "You Shook Me All Night Long"

Parliament/Funkadelic -- just the sheer inventiveness of theyr concepts and the type of musicians that were aboard the "mothership" (eddie hazel, bootsy collins, george clinton)... plus the fact that almost 40 years after the first single their influence can STILL be heard in the newest hiphop acts like OutKast or Snoop Dog...

Favourite Song: "P-Funk (Wants to get Funked Up)"

I really like the Misfits (early stuff). It's fast simple and catchy. I also love their "attitudes". It's dangerous. The most important reason why I like them though is because I just love old-fashioned horror flicks which is Misfits' most famous subject matter.
