Nomadd and George got it right. It was a capacitor in your power supply. You didn't happen to smell it did you? Anyhoooo, go get a new power supply. In order to determine your power requirements I suggest starting with 250 watts for a computer with modest CPU, one CD-ROM and one Hard Drive. For every two devices beyond that (i.e. another DVD and another hard drive) add 50 watts. If you have a power hungry CPU, add another 50 watts to be on the safe side. If you don't want it to happen again...get an Antec power supply. =)

Like a motor vehicle engine, a working laptop or computing gadget will at last placed on out. Leaving the unit on hurries up the approach with the aid of fact the climate get little to no down time to relax down and depolarize. as nicely, the longer a equipment remains on, the extra cost it builds up, and reasons extra airborne dirt and dirt to stay in the case. additionally, leaving the computing gadget on for overly prolonged sessions of time would reason archives corruption and/or loss. in accordance with what kind of RAM reminiscence you have (SRAM or DRAM), you will see significant alleviation interior the overall performance and stability of your computing gadget, as DRAM, in spite of the reality that extra high priced, can "leak" archives if no longer precise refreshed. to confirm the prospect that your computing gadget will final for an extremely long prolonged quantity of time, you could close it off once you at the instant are not around or at the instant are not utilising for a time span of an hour or extra.
