The independent variable would be the one that you control and change. The dependent variable would be the one that changes due to the independent changing.

In this case the music would be the independent and the pulse rate would be the dependent.

Be sure to graph the independent on the "X" axis and the dependent on the "Y" axis of your graph.

"type of music" would be the independent variable.

I did this for my technology honest sophomore year of highschool. I did a relaxed track, a rapid track, and an extremely slow track. The calm track became reggae, the quick track became rock, and the slow track became a mushy indie kind of track.
