I have a Neon Tetra that has developed a couple of white spots, more like discoloration, has a droopy back tail, and can't maintain his balance. He swims up and down and roles on his side? Is he just old? Does he have an infection in his air bladder? Or does he have a disease? Furthermore, should I kill him? I don't want to infect the other fish. I have a very healthy aquarioum otherwise.

Neon Tetra Disease: Fish infected with Neon Tetra Disease will show signs of becoming pale in color (white patches beneath their skin). The fish will not school with the others and become listless. Through the latter stages of the disease the fish´s body will begin to degenerate. Usually the tail end of the body will seem dwarfed and becomes useless, this will cause the fish to have trouble swimming. Upon witnessing these symptoms, death is imminent, consider euthanasia. To my knowledge their is no cure for the disease. I have seen the disease many times and have yet to see it become an epidemic. The disease will however continue to infect your fish until the cause has been remedied. Neon Tetra Disease is usually caused by stress due to poor water conditions, shock (dramatic change of environment), or being harassed by other fish. The disease is fatal but it will not kill them that quickly. It is a degenerative disease that goes through many phases and may take weeks before they will die, the actual amount of time depends on the general health of the fish. The disease is borne of a cyst and it will migrate to the digestive system and eventually the muscles of the infected fish.

I don't know much about fish, but know that you can put anti-biotics specifically for fish like "Fish Mox" in the water. Yes all the fish will absord it, but that is ok.
Have you humanely euthenized a fish before? Don't flush it. Take the fish in it's own water, put it into a tupperware container, seal it and put the fishy in the freezer. I was told to do this by a veterinarian and it worked well. It's easy too - just say a prayer for it when you are doing it. ;-)

more then likely you could have a parasite and if he is infected with a parasite then your other fish have already been exposed so what to try to do is go to the pet store and get you some parasite away, it is really easy to do just put the tablets in the tank and your done. try that for the life of your fish!

There is a posibility he is either dying or is very stressed due to conditions... Isolate him from the other fish in fresh water with a pinch of sodium chloride (salt) the ions my boost his metabolism, but there are no promises... Also remember that U want him to have as much exposure to oxygen as possible. The best way to do this is have as much surface area as possible in what ever you put him in. If all else fails, take him to the vet, but it may just be too late

Unfortunitly this happens to more effective then basically fish at puppy shops. regularly if the animal seems, acts healthful even as this is bought the puppy save received't take any responsablitly and could attempt to position the blame on you for adverse care. which will or received't be the case. this is unfair i understand.

He could have neon tetra disease. You should quarantine him so your other neons do not get sick. There is no cure for NTD if that is what he has. Here's a link to a page on diseases, maybe you'll be able to tell what he has. Good luck

Sounds like NTD to me also. I'd euthanize with clove oil. Watch your other tetras too, they can drop like flies to this disease.
