I am looking at two laptops. One has a 14.1" with 1200x800 resolution and the other is 15.4" with 2000x1500, will the 15.4" one give me much better picture?

The bigger one has basically triple the number of pixels, so it will show more detail. However, I'm not sure you could really tell the difference on a 15" screen. One minus might be that with triple the number of pixels, the display card will have to update three times as fast (or it will lag behind, if you're running something like a game with lots of motion over the fullscreen.)

If that's not a problem, then I'd suggest you go to a dealer or a friend and check out the image quality with your own eyes before deciding whether to spring the extra bucks for the higher resolution one.

How good the picture is depends mainly on whether you like the look of it at the native resolution (the resolution the screen is designed for). Generally, the bigger the screen is the higher the native resolution will be. The resolution is represented by the numbers - such as 2000x1500 etc. Also, some people prefer wide screens like a cinema screen, while others prefer them to be the traditional TV proportions. It looks as if one of your laptops is wide screen (the 2000x1500 one) while the other is the more old fashioned TV shape.
Having said all that, picture quality depends more than anything on the quality of the screen and the graphics system in the laptop, so you really need to see them both, alongside one another if possible.
Finally, you should find reviews of the two machines on the web if you search, and if your lucky direct comparisons on some of the sites that specialise in this, such as http://www.google.dealtime.co.uk

Yes. 2000x1500 is a much better resolution. That number denotes the total number of pixels on the screen. Since ur screen size is not that different 14.1 vs. 15.4, the 2000x1500 will give u clearer, sharper images with more screen room.

The larger screen has a better resolution, the numbers relate to the number of pixels along and up the screen size is.

As with most PC specs larger numbers are better
