Yes it was.
Many scenes for the film was shot in the town of Cong in County Mayo and on the grounds of Cong's Ashford Castle. The town and castle have changed little since 1952, and its connection with the movie have made it a tourist attraction.

Most of it was filmed in Cong, County Mayo, and around Maam Cross in Connemara which are both in the West of Ireland. The cast stayed at the exclusively plush hotel in the beautiful grounds of Ashford Castle, just outside of Cong and if you visit this small village, there are many Quiet Man related places to see, such as Cohan's Pub which is really a shop. Not much fighting goes on there these days ! To get to Cong, it is best to head for either Galway or Westport as it is between the two. Well worth a visit and for a great pint of Guinness !

It was filmed in Cong in County Mayo and in parts of Galway. The main parts were filmed on the grounds of Ashford Castle which is a hotel now but has changed very little. Most of the set was actually real and is still there. You can check it out by visiting www.ashfordcastle.ie or www.cong.ie or www.mayo.ie

The film employed many actors from the Irish theater, including Barry Fitzgerald's brother Arthur Shields, as well as extras from the Irish countryside.
