Technically we lost the war in Vietnam but you bring up a good point, we did stop communist aggression in Southeast Asia. So i guess we did win.

The U.S. did not win nor lose the war in Vietnam. We just quit. In truth, we were winning that war but the nation was tired of sending troops to die in a place that many had never heard about. There seemed to be no end in sight. The protests, marches & general population were tired of it. We just pulled up stakes, left many of our allies behind to suffer & came home. Not all of our casualties who needed help were recognized. Post Tramatic Stress was not diagnosed & many young people suffered needlessly so we lost many more lives than were ever reported by the casuality lists.
We did not save any of the places you listed, they saved themselves.

Ever hear of the Killing Fields? When the Communists took over Cambodia, a million Cambodians (1/4 of the population) were killed. I'd call that a disaster.

Our reason for going into Vietnam was to halt the spread of communism nothing else. We managed to do that for a good amount of time.

Viet Nam was never officially declared a war so therefore the US could neither win nor lose it.
