The person above me does not know what they are talking about, I'm sorry.
The designation of a BMW is:
1st Number = Series Designation (3, 5, 6, 7, M and Z)
2nd Numbers = Capacity, CCMs
The big difference is power, there's about 50 bhp increase and about 55 lb ft increase. That's the most noticeable difference. Same engine, just different tuning in a 328 versus the 325.
The transmission ahs changed from a 5-Speed to a 6-Speed. Another gear is good, especially if you drive on the Autobahn, but that's somewhat negligible...
Stylistically, the cars stay the same unless you're comparing an (E46) to an (E90), those are the different body styles of 3-Series over the last 7 years. Between the E46 and E90 there's a huge difference in style, the outside has altered lines and the kidney grilles have been modified significantly by Chris Bangle, BMW's chief designer. Many people love the change; more people do not love the change.
The interior has also been changed, whereas the materials have not been changed. The dash has been flattened and the integration of the I-Drive system has change the radio, climate, car data and communications format significantly. Many owners do not like this change.
Handling for both cars is unparalleled. The 328 has more power, so the handling is really dependent on how you drive it. Both are simply fantastic vehicles and I have driven both, I own an (E46) 328i, its very fun.

First is the engine, same 3 liter, but more ponies. No it's not a 2.8.
bmw assist is now free for 4 years, instead of 1.
Nav includes real time traffic info (fm based)
new silver rings on the control knobs.
that is between the 06 325 and the 07 328. It may not sound like much, but the difference is pretty big in terms of power.

the 325i has a 2497cc inline 6 /R6 engine
the 328i has a 2793cc inline 6/ R6 engine
they are both the same engines but different capacities

The engine size is different.
325i is a 2.5 liter engine (good on gas)
328i is a 2.8 liter engine (has more horsepower and less efficient on gas)
