We've talked, written, and given information to these people. Their HEAVILY scented laundry products fill our yard and home when they do laundry, causing headaches and nausea for myself, suffering from Multiple Chemical Sensitivity. We've tried everything for some peaceful resolution. We've asked them to use Unscented, or at the very least do their laundry either early in the day or late in the day. Nothing helps. They say they will be cooperative, yet the problem persists. Because of their actions, I can not go outside and enjoy our lovely backyard. I can't play with my dog, or even do yard work. The smells are sooo strong you can taste it. Others without MCS, have commented on how strong it is.
Please, any advice would be greatly appreciated. Most people can't imagine such a life. It's caused me to give up alot, but I won't give up my own back yard without a fight. Why can't people who want their clothes to smell, just spray on perfume, why do we all have to breath the chemicals?

You need to get access to your lega rights. Try the sites below, make sure to change the location/state in which you reside. A letter from an Attorney, will do wonders. Try the last site for an Affordable Attorney in your State. Watch the online movie presentation. Hope this helps. I wish you the very best of luck.

I'm with you, I had a neighbor who would scent her laundry SO MUCH it made it impossible to live there I would keep throwing up every time she did her laundry, I am not MCS but if you are prompt to Migraines you get them from overloading your sense of smell, did you know that? I have violent migraines it was impossible to live there.

I talked, wrote, explained etc. Nothing works with these people fortunately she was my downstairs neighbor so I started playing REALLY loud music, she complained, wrote, explained, and I took exactly the same attitude that B took during all of those months I tried to make her understand , finally she gave up and moved. Of course I had to move too as soon as my lease ended because my landlord was an irrational person who didn't listen to my complaints in the first place, I was forced to take action and of course I was considered "a problem tenant", not her, ME. In any case I am glad I moved, that place was a piece of garbage anyways.

Added: I have to disagree with the person who says they are just doing their laundry, we are talking HEAVY METAL scented laundry stuff, anybody who has smelled this knows you can be walking a block away from the person doing their laundry and still be able to smell the STRONG perfume . If I anybody plays loud music they get inmediately a warning, HEARING is a sense just like SMELL is , why is it that nobody cares that other people just don't want to smell perfume? why is so difficult to understand that what people consider "good smells" can actually make somebody sick just as "bad smells" do?. If a neighbor plays music or has a barking dog is inmediately reported, why do people insist on wearing strong lotions or perfumes and then getting in the subway? why do you force people to smell your stuff? It is not illegal but it should be

You won't want to hear this, but unfortunately there is not much you can do. Your neighbors are not doing anything illegal, they're just doing their laundry within their own home, just like millions of other people in their homes. You can only ask them for cooperation, but they don't have to comply. I've smelled fabric softener from dryers outside before, so I know how strong it can be, but it dissapates after a while. It's certainly not a permanent outdoor scent, I mean, the wind carries it away. And are you saying you can never go outside? Does this mean they are doing laundry every day, all day?

I don't mean to sound unsympathetic, but if your neighbors do not want to do their laundry on your terms, you'll just have to adapt somehow. Just don't go outside when they're doing laundry.
