there's a jpeg file on my desktop that won't open and when i right click to delete it it only gives me the options preview, pring, send to, and openwith and none of these do anything. how do i get it to delete? (also i can not just drag it into my recycling bin and delete it from there. any ideas?

Try right-clicking and then select "properties". If it is marked read-only, uncheck that. You may then be able to delete it.

depending on what error you get, it might be because it is being used by another program/user or you are not authorized to delete it.
Try hitting the delete button if you have not yet. Closing all programs may help.

you probably have to change the permissions on the file. right click and view the properties.

Are you using a mac or PC?

Highlight the file in question and do the following:
Hold down the key and hit the key.

Try all of the above AND try seeing if the filepath* is over 150 characters. If it's over that, rename some of the folders it's in shorter.

Filepath: Something that tells the computer where the file is. for example:

C:\Documents and Settings\Bob\My Documents\My Pictures

Does the delete key work? (I'm not trying to be smart ***, I swear)

I'd also try running a virus scan. Could be one of those.
