I TOTALLY agree with you! I got spankings as a kid, nothing too serious, but I was usually a good kid ;) and it definately got my attention. All this will do is take time and energy away from social workers, etc. from investigating serious abuse and neglect, whitch is plenty prevelent I'm sure in a state of around 50million people. And everytime a kid gets a spanking or anything close to it, a kid will threaten thier parents with the cops! Hmmm reminds me of stories I've heard of during the Chinese revolution when kids were encouraged to inform on thier parents for the smallest slight....

I was never put over a knee and spanked... but when we were little, if my brother or I acted up really bad my mom would give us a quick swat on the butt and tell us to stop. (mostly if we were out in public) Now days someone would be calling the police on her before we left the store!
It's meant to stop child abuse, to make parents think, "If I hit my kid at all I can be punished." But the parents who are abusing their children obviously don't care about weather it's against the law or not. To make spanking against the law is crazy. Just because some disagree with it, who cares?! Let them raise their kids without spanking... and the ones who want to can, (as long as it's not more than just a simple spanking.)
Besides, how do they expect to enforce it?! They can't unless they're in public!

nicely i think of the government already steps too a techniques into our lives - bypass it - and in 2 an prolonged time while there's no person with any trouble-free experience or limitations left - in keeping with risk then they are going to see the blunders of their techniques. I see somebody did no longer like what I had to assert and that's ok - i'm no longer asserting that each and each physique young babies ought to be overwhelmed nor am I asserting that babies decrease than 3 ought to be spanked. What i'm asserting is - this is only the commencing up - as quickly as this regulation is handed this is only a be counted of time until eventually now something much greater severe gets handed. some young babies do no longer pay attention reason, and for some the entire reward subject only will become manipulation on the babies area - i be attentive to - I even have 6 young babies - 2 of them have by no skill mandatory better than a troublesome look - 2 might wait until eventually you took something faraway from them - and a pair of i assumed we'd ought to triumph over 0.5 to dying to get them to pay attention - even at 3 they try their limits

It's my understanding that this law is for children 3 and under, not for all kids. I think it's being written to curb child abuse. I think it's ambitious, but, may cause more harm than good, because everyone would be calling the police anytime someone spanked a child that appear in the age range. The police have much more important things to do.

I believe they are referring to children under the age of three. Does a 0-three year old learn anything from being spanked? I was spanked once at the age of 8. At least the punishment meant something to me because I can remember it and what I supposedly did wrong to deserve it.

I think the law is insane. Kids are bad enough now..imagine NO discipline! I was spanked and turned out just fine. It was lovingly done. I learned my lesson and never did it again. A good sound paddling once in a while is what a lot of these little s***s need.

Ok, I'm not a parent.... but I believe some kids absolutely need their tails worn out!
I mean go to, say.... Wal-mart, and there's this kid who is throwing this HUGE temper tantrum, and the mom/dad only says something like "settle down now"... does the kid listen? NO! Now look at the same kid 10 years latter.... he's a trouble maker ain't he? Because he hasn't had any discipline!
When I was little if I threw a temper tantrum in the store or anywhere, my mom/dad wore me out!

If this is true, California needs to fall into the ocean.
Not all children respond to any other type of discipline.
EDIT: I spanked my son when he turned 1. He's 10 and I'm done.

I really do not think that our government has any place in telling us how to discipline our children....they should spend their time trying to get healthcare provided for the poor and uninsured...maybe lower gas prices....and if at all possible...maybe they could spend just a little more time trying to decide how to get our still breathing soldiers out of Iraq.....

But you are talking about California and nothing they do surprises me. Yes, I think it would be a foolish law. Will California pass it? Probably so.
