Solve for "y" > 15y + 14 = 2(5y + 6)

First: eliminate the parenthesis > multiply the outer term with the terms in parenthesis....

15y + 14 = 2(5y) + 2(6)

15y + 14 = 10y + 12

Sec: combine "like" terms...subtract "14" from both sides...

15y + 14 - 14 = 10y + 12 - 14
15y = 10y - 2

*Subtract "10y" from both sides...

15y - 10y = 10y - 10y - 2
5y = - 2

Third: isolate "y" on one side > divide both terms by "5"...

5y/5 = - 2/5
y = -2/5

Use distributive property:
15y+14=10y+12

Subtract 10y from both sides:
5y+14=12

Subtract 14 from both sides:
5y=-2

Divide 5 from both sides:
y=-2/5

Check:
15(-2/5)+14=2(5(-2/5)+6)
-2(3)+14=2(-2+6)
-6+14=2(4)
8=8

I hope this helps!
