What is your definition of a trophy wife? What kind of person do you think of when you hear the term?

A bimbo who has no marketable skills so she uses her "assets" to bag an older, less attractive and financially secure man. She is treated well in public yet ridiculed behind her back and often ends up a miserable, used up ho.

a trophy wife is a young very good looking woman, who does not have much say in her marriage. She is controlled by her dominating husband who does not give a **** about her. She is around for show at all his gala business events, and to empty his balls when he is horny.
Sorry that's what she is there for.
Look at the movie "Diary of a mad black woman" the very first part of the movie shows what is a trophy wife.

I picture a young, beautiful, but stuck-up women that is with a very powerful older man. She is just there to be shown off... like a trophy... and spends her husbands money at will because she knows very well that he can't get better than her. And she realizes that if he does find better than her that she gets half of everything when it is all over!

My understanding is that a trophy wife is a beautiful woman that the man (usually ugly or old, but rich) married for the primary purpose of showing off. It makes me think of a beautiful woman who married for money... or somehow confuses money with love.
However, my husband sometimes refers to me as his trophy wife, and means it as a compliment (my husband is handsome, my age, and makes the same as me... and has no doubt of my love for him).

a trophy wife, to me , is the status symbol of an immature,egotistical male celebrating the hotness of their wife -its a desperate cry for acceptance among his peers.The stepford wives come to mind when I hear the term.

I think of somebody young, with a beautiful face and great figure. She doesn't have to be especially bright, but also has a pleasant personality. She wants to marry somebody rich who will take care of her and spend lots of money on her till the end of her days.

I'd say people think this, when they see an unnatractive wealthy guy with some girl who very obviously wouldn't be caught dead with him, except for the fact he has money.
He's showing her off, she's showing him off.
Or as I heard it put best:
"Men view women as sex symbols. Women view men as success symbols"
