And so, Wednesday's announcement closes the book on the investigation into the failed Arkansas savings and loan owned by the Clintons' Whitewater real estate partners, Jim and Susan McDougal. The McDougals were convicted in a 1996 fraud trial stemming from the collapse of the S&L, which cost taxpayers more than $60 million.
Jim McDougal died in prison and Susan McDougal served a year and a half behind bars for refusing to tell a federal grand jury whether the president testified truthfully in the case.
Mr. Clinton swore that he knew nothing about a fraudulent federally-backed $300,000 loan to the McDougals that they never repaid.
When prosecutors finally got to question Mrs. McDougal last year for the first time, she said more than 40 times that she did not recall various business deals related to Whitewater and the failing S&L, asserting that her husband had handled most financial matters.

While William Jefferson Clinton was President the Republicans instituted a Special Prosecutor to look into the Clinton's past. After spending $42 million the Starr investigation could find no wrong doing so they started looking at Bill Clinton's personal life. Whitewater refers to some Real Estate transactions Hillary participated in, in Arkansas during the 70s and 80s. She was accused of illegally making money, though extensive investigations never turned up anything illegal.

It is a very in depth and confusing scandal. They went out of their way to make sure of that, including the deaths of over 50 people. Too much information to post here. You will find everything you need to know about it right here from PBS. A knowledgeable voter is an informed voter.
This isn't all of their sinister, dirty laundry either.....they both should be locked up.
Most of the other bozos that answered can't even give a knowledgeable answer. They will make uneducated votes, again.

Hillary Clinton and Bill Clinton did some tax evasion, land fraud, and bribing on a shady land deal. They didn't go to prison because of Susan McDougal wouldn't tell the truth and went to prison for contempt of court.

It was a bullshit story invented by Newt Gingrich and the lunatic right-wing fringe.
They made up a bunch of phony allegations and spent several years and $60 milion looking for any shred of wrongdoing they could find but of course, were unable to find any evidence of any criminal wrongdoing by the Clintons.
