x = # of 1st
y= # of 2nd

x + y = 40 kg
5x + 5.8y =40*5.5 = 220

x = 40-y

5(40-y) + 5.8y = 220
200-5y + 5.8y = 220
.8y = 20
y = 25
x = 15

You really need to do your own homework.
If you are having trouble, ask the teacher for extra help or to get you a tutor. Many times, teachers will give you the benefit of the doubt on things when you show them that you are trying.

$5x + $5.8y = $5.5(40)
x+y=40

x=40-y
y=40-x

5(40-y) + 5.8y = 220 = 5.5*40

200-5y+5.8y=220

.8y=20

y=20/.8

y = 25

since x+y =40 and we see y=25 , x = 15

test result:

(25(5.8) + 15(5) ) / 40 = ?

5.5

Thank me very much
