In my imagination... I think it would be great if everyone was temporarily sterilized at birth, and then once they are ready for a child, they could apply for a licence to reproduce. They would have to prove their understanding of the responsibilies of parenthood, and pass a basic criminal background check to make sure they weren't pedophiles and such. What are your thoughts?

In principle, I'm all for it... so many people are utter morons that they should not be allowed to pollute the gene pool with their defective material or impose their deleterious influence on kids who, after all, are the country's future.

My problem is what criteria would be chosen for attribution of licenses. A theoretical exam about a parent's duties, responsibilities, and ways to cope with a kid in the family? great idea, but we know from driving that passing the exam is no warranty that you'll be responsible after you got that car. Being able to support the kid? that would be discrimination against the poor... if you want to endorse that, I leave you free of your opinions. or what else?

All in all, it would likely degenerate into fascistic policy and barefaced eugenism... and the most ideal plans of that kind to tend to have bad side effects.

That would be such a great idea...stop people like Britney Spears and my sister in law and her twit husband from having children! It would be like this book I read in junior high where there was birth control in the water and you had to apply to have it removed from your own supply.

The practicality of it probably isn't the best, but the dream of some people not having children would be so nice!

1984's a great year to have a Brave New World provided its 451 deg. Fahrenheit outside.

Choose your own fate. I will not be part of your Brave New World people.

BAD Idea! Horrible Idea!

I think that idea is, at best, insane and Orwellian.
