Decriminalized at the least. Legalized would be ok by me-- tax the crap out of it and control it. It also makes for great paper and other products.

I think it should be officially tolerated at least, as it is in Holland. It is a very good pain relief agent for certain medical conditions and should be made available for analgesia. Heroin, morphine and cocaine can be prescribed for pain relief, why not cannabis? It is a lot less destructive than those drugs. There is a cannabis spray to be applied under the tongue for pain relief, it is made like that as it does not have any psychological effect. Why this is I do not know, it seems as if "they" do not mind you taking it as long as you don't enjoy it. Strange.
It also has an effect that is not very well publicised, it improves your love life considerably! If you are with someone you love, the physical and psychological sensations are heightened a lot and it will make you grow a lot closer to them and be more loving. The adverse effects are that it is usually mixed with tobacco which will kill you, if you smoke it 24/7 you will become an idiot (See any Cheech and Chong film) and it can give you emphysema and bronchitis. On the plus side, it is safe to drive on, you will be more careful at the wheel and drive more considerately. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
As to the criminal aspect of it, when did you see any dope fiends kicking off in public? You don't, it makes you mellow and relaxed. 75% of violent crime is caused by alcohol or is alcohol related, ask any policeman. Stoners may be a bit dozy, but do not beat up anybody.

Why should cannabis be legalised simply for the duration of your school project?

I'm only joking - your phraseology implied that you needed cannabis legalised to enable you to get through your school project!

Seriously, I would legalise all drugs. As long as drugs remain obtainable, but obtainable with difficulty, then they will be expensive and people will resort to crime to get the money to but the drugs.

If they are legaised, one will be able to obtain them in the same way that one can buy tobacco or alcohol. They will be priced at the rate that the market will stand, and a major, world-wide crime ring will cease to exist.

As regards the dangers of drugs, the user will have to bear the consequences, but if the criminal element is excised from the supply chain, then the risk to users from the drugs being'cut' (alloyed with impurities such as talcum powder, chalk etc) will be reduced.

I am not allowed to turn up for work drunk, so drug users should not be allowed to report for duty 'stoned', or whatever the current nomenclature is for narcotic intoxication. That is the sole proviso that I would make.

The Health Providers must give details of the potential harm to users. Suffice to say, tobacco consumption has been linked with a variety of ailments, based on research started by Sir Richard Doll in the 1950s. Smoking of tobacco is now eschewed in most enclosed public buildings in the USA and the UK. However, research released yesterday by the eminent journel 'The Lancet' has blamed poor lung function in contemporary children to the effect of traffic fumes.

You may also impress your teacher by looking up the 'Maillard Reaction'. This is a scientific way of describing what happens when meat or fish is browned in cooking. Eating well-cooked meat may give you cancer, because of PAHs. I'll trust your studentship to investigate PAHs.

I hope I have been of help, and good luck.

It has been proved that cannabis has help people suffering with m.s and other similar illness's, It should be made legal for medical use for starters. As for everyday use, I'm not so sure, but then i don't do drugs and don't have the need for the kick they are suppose to give you.

It should be legalised because it is here but it should carry similar health warnings and education programmes that are applied to alcohol and tobacco.

It will be cheaper than the cost of the law enforcement activities that are currently involved in keeping it illegal, but my view has changed from the believe that it is harmless fun to that it is potentially dangerous in the long term but probably in the same league as alcohol and tobacco.

Are you coming to Yahoo Answers so you can include the results of this poll in your project? If you are, then put me down as a

YES.

If you're looking for arguments on legalizing or decriminalizing it, you might try the website http://leap.cc/
It's called Law Enforcement Against Prohibition. You might also look at Dean Becker's site, http://www.drugtruth.net/

Yes legalise it , but slap a huge government health warning on it . I dont care what people say it DOES lead to other things. Trust me iknow (had quite a bad drug problem 6 years and 8 months ,1 week and 2 days ago). People constantly grow a tolerance to it the more they smoke, the more they need to get stoned. Hence the reason why people graduate to bigger things.

No form of any drug should ever be legalised, look at the problems already with tobbaco and alcohol, and all the girls murdered in Ipswich all started out on cannabis before going on to harder drugs.

only for medical use, friends with ms say it helps. unfortunately social use is as bad or worse than alcohol. Don't do today what you can put off forever, Use destroys marriages ,relationships. we don't need any more ways to deaden the pain of living need to make living better. Regular cannabis users are usually very laid back, really nice to be around but never actually do anything.
