Of course your mom can be with you. She can be with you now and even when you are older if you want to have a blood test. My children are petrified too. My oldest is 12 and he had to get some "numbing cream" offered by the lab so he didnt feel it. He was fine after that. Just dont look. You will be okay!

Sure, Mum can stay with you! I will do the same when my daughter has to go (she is 13 1/2 and also deathly afraid of needles). It's okay to be scared, and guess what - I used to be scared of needles, too!!! I remember the one time I had to get a big injection (and I was a grown-up already)...I had read something, if you really relax, you can hardly feel it! I tried to put my mind on something else and totally missed the shot!!!
And blood tests actually hurt less than getting a shot because they are taking blood out, not pushing something in!!!

Yes, she can stay. Another person is allowed to be with you during blood testing. Usually the only time someone else isn't allowed in a medical area, is when gamma/x-rays are involved, ultrasounds (in some cases), scintigraphs (nuclear medicine), and CAT scans/MRIs...the more serious testing (which you aren't having) and even in some of those cases, your parent can be provided with speical shielding and can stay in the same room, but don't sweat it- she'll be allowed in. Don't be nervous, taking your blood doesn't usually hurt at all! It's a small prick, and sometimes a bruise afterwards. I've had my blood testing lots of times/ many vaccines, and they usually never hurt- especially now that they don't need to switch the needle every time they draw blood for a different sampling. Good luck, your blood test should go perfectly fine!

I have had several experiences with doctors and hospitals and have learned that there is a lot of stuff where you can have someone be with you. I had a spinal tap about a year ago and was completely scared. We talked to that doctor and my dad was aloud to come in with me to haold my hand and talk to me. If you are ever in doubt or just in general, ASK. I am in my 20s and finally can go by myself to get bloodwork (I also hate needles). So the answer is yes, and don't worry as you get older needles slowly become less scary. Just turn away and talk to a nurse/your mom or think about something else, not the needle.

Yes. You are aloowed to have someone with you. hey if u think your scared of needles u should have seen my brother when he was about 6. ( i was 4) i wasnt the least bit afraid of them. But my brother jerked away from here and there so hard it snapped the needle in half :D all it is going to do is draw SOME blood. Just hold your breath look away and count to about 20.

Of course, sweetie. And lots of people are afraid of needles. The secret, of course, is not to look! If you're lucky, the phlebotomist (the one who draws blood) will be really experienced and it won't hurt at all. But it will be over in a minute in any event. Like all things in life, honey, the dread and the anticipation are always much, much worse than the actual thing.

There's a stinging sensation when the needle penetrates your skin. It really doesn't take long at all.
I am not a needle guy either. Trust me, I'd never be a good junkie. I suggest that you look AWAY from it so all you hear is the liar...uh, nurse saying "you'll feel a slight pinch" followed by "okay, hold this."
I really suggest doing it without Mom. You are psyching yourself up for this to be a big deal, and if you triumph over it this time you'll be in much better shape for future things.
Remember, one day you'll have OB-GYN exams...she can't go along for those, after all.

I can tell you it's not as bad as you might think of hear the reason why I say this is because I had to have that done 3-4 times out of the year because of my seizures. Chances are the nurse will ask you if you want your mom in there with you because they would rather you feel more relaxed and they may also ask you if you want to hold something that you can squeeze if it dose hurt and just to let you know they will have something tied around your arm.The first time is always the scariest one.

I had to get mine done last year when i was 14 and i was aloud to have my mom if i wanted to. but they try to get u to go without or mom but if u really want ur mom or dad u can. at least were i live anyways. but don't worry about it, it looks creepy and if u don't like blood don't watch it...bring a book or best yet a MP3 player. u can turn it up and hope not to feel the little pinch. it only pinches alittle and it may hurt abit after wards but other then that don't watch hoe much blood they take out of u if u r weak...it's kinda gross for some people...MP3 helped me i'm sure it might help you some. good luck and don't worry about it. nurses are really nice. they treat u great.

Relax my dear, a blood test is not that horrible. Yes you should be able to have your mum with you. You will be fine and just don't look at it and you will not even know you are having a test. Courage my dear... it will not take long. It may sting a little, but that is all you will feel. I know this is hard but if you relax it will not hurt as much. Good Luck
