Seems to be the only way to assure we learn that lesson isn't it? Humans seem to be hard wired to ignore established wisdom and go on anyhow. Once in awhile we succeed, but just as often it blows up in our face. Sometimes, we might actually break new ground, but most often, the result is a hard lesson. Mine was last week when I forgot, again, to put $180 my Mom gave me into my pocket instead of my wallet, a sloppy habit she once warned me about. Somewhere along the line, it fell out! Not only was I unable to purchase what I was supposed to, but I still had to pay her back. You would think, at 58, I would know what wallets are for, wouldn't you?
I have learned that as we get older, there are fewer things to learn the hard way, but there is always something ready to jump out from left field and bite us, when we least expect it.
However, mankind tends to make the same errors again and again. History repeats itself until painful lessons are learned. How much harder this seems for nations as compared to individuals!
Anyhow, I am sure this is not the last time I will learn something the hard way, but I will surely never forget to use my wallet.

I learned that my husband has a hell of a throwing arm. I asked him to throw me the cordless phone from about 25 ft away. He threw it, I dropped my hands and the phone hit me in the mouth. Had to get 8 stitches.

There was this guy I used to work with. I trusted him. I was warned not to. He got me fired when I took the spotlight off of him. Wish I didn't trust him.
