The best answer is jealousy. Sometimes people live in a fantasy world where everything will work out to their expectations but unfortunately it just doesn't. His ex probably thought that they were close to being a family after everything that has happend. You should talk to your brother about using protection so that this doesn't happen again.

First, not all women are like that--just the ones with such low self-esteem that they think they will never "get" another man. Your brother should have taken measures on his own part to insure that there wasn't a chance he could father a child (don't blame the woman) if he didn't want one with a woman he had sex with. Many women think that getting pregnant and having a child is a great achievement ("but I gave you a child!"), but most living things in this world procreate whether they have any intelligence or not (it's just the way life is)--but a lot of these women are just not real bright and subconsciously think they have nothing else to offer the world (and the man). If someone, whether male or female, does not want any possibility of having a child with the person he or she is having sex with, then he and/or she needs to take preventative measures--you cannot mindlessly think that the other person is doing it, not if you want to be sure; and if you don't make sure nothing can get through to conceive a child, then you have to take responsibility for your irresponsibility. There are ways men can prevent fathering a child and in most cases, they are far less physically damaging to the man then birth control for women. If the ex-girlfriend is harrassing your brother (and/or his new girlfriend), he/they can take out temporary restraining orders against the ex. And if the relationship is serious and strong between the new girlfriend and your bro, then a demented ex won't shake it up all that much.
