To say that cold fill washing machines wash with cold water is nonsense. They have heating elements inside to warm the water to whatever temperature you have selected for your wash. In most cases, they probably are more economical, because you don't leave a load of hot water cooling in the pipes between your hot water cylinder and the washer. You wouldn't fire up your boiler or immersion heater to make a cup of tea, would you? No, you would heat up just the required amount of water in your kettle, where it's needed. A cold fill machine does the same by heating the water on the spot, and that's why nearly all modern machines are cold fill.

Much more energy efficient to heat the correct amount of water to the correct temperature in the machine than to heat a tankfull and only use some. A well tried and tested fact. Most wash cycles only use warm, not hot water.

To the people that think cold fill only machines don't heat the water...........Of course they do!! Feel the glass door during a wash.

Supposed to be more economical to heat the water in the machine? That's what the literature supplied with mine said.

Modern detergents work at lower temperatures so water doesn't need a lot of heating unless doing a white wash.

Actually these "cold fill" machines do not heat and the advantage is to save on your electricity/gas bills as you will not be using the extra wattage or gas to heat your washing water.

There are even some new laundry detergents out that are made specifically for these machines. They take into account that the water will not be heated and the detergent is formulated to dissolve better in cold water so it washes just as effectively. For example, Tide Coldwater.

My understanding was that they fill with cold water and the machine heats the water to the appropriate temperature. It is therefore more expensive to run, whereas a warm fill one takes the water from your boiler and is therefore more cost effective.

Cold fill machines simply have one input for cold water, and thats it. No heater inside, just that your clothes get washed with cold water. Nothing fancy, just a plain plain jane warshing machine....

Speaking of which, why do some people pronounce it WAHRSHING Machine? Hmmmmmmmm

actually the water isn't heated by the machine. if you want hot water it draws from your hot water tank. therefore, if it is cold only i suppose you would save on electricity or gas whichever your hot water tank uses, because it would not be heating the water going into the machine.

the water is NOT heated by the washer it just washes the clothes in cold only saves energy by not having to use hot water, and if you are buying a fancy washer that heats its own water then in my opinion you are wasting your money, I would never buy such a thing, heaven knows how much it would cost to service such a monster.
