I don't want yahoo messanger on my computer, so i keep trying to delete it. It won't show up in the Add/Remove programs or anywhere else. So i went through where it says explore, and it shows up there but it doesn't have an uninstall or anything its very strange. Then sometimes all by itself it just pops up and starts signing in. The id is sevendaze, and its really creepy, on the messanger, they have nothing but women with all the same name. Brittany, the same as my name, i don't know what to think about this help!

Does sound fishy...

Try this - Download and install Yahoo messenger, then you should be given the options of uninstalling it after a sucsessfull install...

If that fails, then it sounds like it could be a rouge Yahoo Messenger, in which case i reccomend scanning your system for any trojans/viruses/spyware. After that I'd recomend installing a Firewall...

Go to My computer>C Drive (the letter C corresponds to your main Drive, can be any letter)>Program Files>Yahoo folder or Yahoo Messenger>Delete the whole folder>Empty recycling bin. Make sure you close all instances of Yahoo! Messenger before you attempt to delete, or it it may not work. If the problem persists, unplug your network cable (or disable your wirless card) from the back of your computer for awhile and see if the problem still persists. If it does then you have a System Virus or Worm, just use Norton Antivirus to remove. If the problem doesn't persist then connect back your Network cable (or enable your wirless card) and Install Norton Internet Security and set it on HIGH protection and prompt me on everything, you will eventually see a prompt that will say "Yahoo Messenger is atempting to access the internet" choose "block" and check "always use this selection, this way the hacker can no longer use messenger. I suggest you say block to everything that seems suspicious, especially remote computers unless your expecting them.

I don't know about those answer.

First, go to Norton's and download a FREE, 15 day trial of the antivurus programs. Some people tell you to try this free software from Brand X, but they will scan your machine for free, but if you have problems or a virus you need to pay to delete the virus. Norton gives you a FULL scan, detection, and deletion of any virus, but for 15 days only.

http://www.symantec.com/home_homeoffice/downloads/index.jsp

Once you have it loaded, you will reboot the computer. Now run the program, but NOT CONNECTED to the Internet. Mine takes about 2 hours or so.

Once you run it, it should detect any hidden viruses you have.

Now get on the internet and see what your Messenger does. If you have WEIRD problems, then I would delete the Yahoo Messenger from your computer.

Go to START, CONTROL PANEL, the to ADD & DELETE PROGRAMS, then to YAHOO MESSENGER. Click it on and delete. You have to reboot for deletions to take effect.

Then just load up Yahoo Messenger again after rebooting and getting on the internet again. If your computer is too slow, you can not boot up Yahoo Messenger 8 now.

I do presume you have the Windows XP updated also.

All hope of keeping your password safe from hardware keyloggers should not be lost if you use the simple strategy of entering passwords with an on screen keyboard. Windows XP has one preinstalled simply press the Windows+U Keys to bring up the Utility Manager which has the option of activating the windows on screen keyboard or if already logged in Click Start-->Run and type osk.exe to bring up the on screen keyboard. It takes a little longer and some getting use to but if your computer is in a unsecured place like an open office at work or a dorm room and someone wishes to do you harm by stealing your passwords its worth a little inconvenience. Some online banks that are security conscience like INGDIRECT are forcing their customers to use its own version of an screen keyboard to protect accounts from this new and security threat.

Go to the URL and either bookmark it or free registration. Good site for tips and to learn. Like they say, Give you the answer and you fix your problem, give you the site to learn and you never have to ask. lol

wow that part about the name is creepy.
I should try that on my next girlfriend to show her how much i care.....

Anyway - there has to be a folder somewhere on your machine that holds yahoo messenger. By default the location is:
C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\Messenger
But it could be somewhere else....
Inside that folder is a icon that looks like a trash can that is called "unwise.exe" that is the self uninstall part of yahoo messenger.
Just about every program has one of these - so don't be willy nilly double clicking the first unwise.exe you find....Be sure it is the one that shares a folder with YahooMessenger.exe....

Which by the way is the file I would search for if yahoo was not installed in the default directory.

Dont' jump to the conclusion of being hacked remotely.
It is MUCH more likely this was a joke played by someone who has immiedeite access to your machine.

Hope this helps - best of luck.

Not sure what is happening with your computer but if you think it may be a virus you can go to http://vil.nai.com and download the current version of "stinger". This is a free virus checker from McAfee that will scan for some of the most common viruses.

good Luck.

seems like it loads on startup. go to START , then click RUN, then type msconfig this will open the configuration pannel. Again in the configuration pannel click startup. Scroll through the list and try to search any service named yahoo and uncheck it. Press Apply and then Ok and then restart your machine. You are done. Please note that do not try to start or stop any other service other wise it might make your system unstable
