"Limelight", Rush ("Moving Pictures", 1980)
At the height of their popularity, they release a song about how fame sucks. They've done things their way for 32 years without a change in band members (next studio album: summer 2007) and will probably last another 20.

"Telegraph Road", Dire Straits ("Love Over Gold", 1980)
Most people know Dire Straits by "Sultans of Swing" and "Money For Nothing", but "Communique" and "Love Over Gold" were their best albums. They had no hit singles from either, but both are rock classics that have to be savoured like a fine wine in a warm room. "Telegraph Road" is 13 minutes of sheer brilliance.

"Keep Yourself Alive", Queen ("Queen", 1973)
I loved Freddie and most of their hits, but it was Brian May's buttkicking signature tune that set the world on fire.

"Jesus Built My Hotrod", Ministry ("Psalm 69", 1992)
The height of Industrial's popularity, this song was fun even if you don't like Industrial.

"How Soon Is Now", The Smiths (1988)
Two words: primal scream. Even if your life didn't suck, you could empathize.

Let me check the most played on my iPod... my favorite songs change around a lot, but they're essentially the same type of songs...

"Bohemian Rhapsody" by Queen
"Touchdown Turnaround" by Hellogoodbye
"You Know What They Do To Guys Like Us In Prison"-My Chemical Romance
"I Fought The Law" by The Clash (or the Green Day cover)
"Sixteen" by No Doubt

There you have it.
