yes they can once its got an OS , the only problem that may come up might be some missing drivers, but in general it will default to the generic base drivers.

It may work if it is the same model computer. Each computer has unique hardware inside, sometimes as add on cards, sometimes as built on the motherboard. These include: Video card, sound card, network card, and others. If the Video is the same, it should at least display. If the sound is the same, you will hear it. If the network card is the same, you got internet.
If they ain't the same, when you put the HD in and turn the PC on, it will try to install the drivers that are particular to the hardware.
To resolve hardware conflicts, you can go to the manufacturers web site and see if there are drivers availabye for installation.

Yes, though you may run into problems with drivers and suchlike. However, if there's an age difference between your computer and their's, one might be a SATA drive and the other an IDE. They've got different cables.

first the harddrive will work and it may boot there OS i.e XP pro, however unless they have and excact copy of your pc then there will be loads of driver issues and you may also find that you will be forced toreactivate xp as it see's all the hardware changes.
