free range

Cage laid - because they're a lot cheaper than the free range.

And honestly, just because the label SAYS "free range" doesn't mean that they're really free range!

There's a great cash incentive for the farmer or the egg processor or the retailer to lie - since it's cheaper to raise cage laid eggs, and free range eggs sell for a much higher price.

Since you don't really know for sure HOW the eggs were laid, because you wern't there, why pay the premium price?

Beyond that, on the "morality" or "ecological" side - at the end of the day, we're talking about a chicken who's eggs never get to be born and are instead taken away to be eaten by people.

And once that chicken reaches the end of her reproductive life, she gets slaughtered and cut up for soup meat - "free range" or "cage laid" alike.

That's the bottom line, so why get so worked up about HOW the chicken is kept in the years before she's slaughtered for your dinner table??? Seems kinda stupid and hypocritical to me!

I try to buy only fresh farm eggs. Fortunately, I live in an area where I can do that most of the time. Otherwise I buy Egglands from the grocery store. Huge difference in farm eggs (aka free range) than regular eggs. The color, the shell, the taste. I guess that is because they come from happy chickens!!

I'm not sure, but I hope they're free range because the "cage laid" thing sounds a little too kinky for me to be eating at breakfast

Both. I like the free range eggs for omelets and souffles they make a fluffier egg. I like the cage laid for like deviled eggs and using in cakes and breads cause the yellow is bigger.

I buy the ones at the grocery store. I would rather have free range eggs, but don't know where to get them in NY.

The eggs don't realy make any difference but if your buying the chicken get free range if possible! the meat is much firmer from the bird getting plenty of exercise!

We have our own free range chooks running around that give us five eggs a day!
I haven't bought eggs for years but if I did it would definitely be free range as the chooks get a better diet.

Not to brag but I have been getting free range eggs fresh from the farm. My daughters co worker shares with everyone at work and she brings them home to me. I just got a fresh dozen today!
