They can also get into your house. Squirrels are easily trapped and simply released in another area.Of course that requires a lot of work and time. The newer, high powered pellet rifles do a great job of reducing their population.
And last but not least a big tom cat or terrier breed dog.

I don't mind them in the yard etc., but I have had them in the attic and chewing through the ceilings etc. I located the holes they made in house and put metal plates over them and a radio in the attic on a rock station and this seems to have discourged them.
Maybe if you put red pepper, moth balls around the yard it would keep them away.

Set a trap then after you catch them release them somewhere else you both win the squirrels didn't destroy your tree they live and they get a new home completely safe

Get a cat. A nice big male Maine Co on , excellent hunters. No more squirrels guaranteed.
