what i mean by that is HOW did he become successful? did he do his own work? or the woman who wuz supporting him encouraging him did all the work FOR him or what??? how does a man become successful with the help of a woman? Does she give him good ideas and he works on it or does he let her work on it? well what my point is that how does the saying "behind every successfull man there is woman" play a role in each other's responsibilities? as in what wuz the woman's responsibility to do to make him successful and what wuz the man's...etc....

i believe this ole wives tale is just another way of saying:
man and woman become one and thus together they complete each other.

there is a contentment when things are shared and the desire for success is enhanced.

your desire for success is not up to her to do for you but your success can be enhanced by a happy marrage

I think the quote is "Behind every great man, there is a great woman"; the main difference being that this quote denotes the quality of the woman behind the man.

Your first consideration is that this quote is old enough (circa 1940's) so that the culture for women was different than it is now. Women were less in the forefront as successful icons in their own right and had a lot less visibility given to the things that they did that men now take for granted.

So, in that context, great men of their time generally had women at home, or in their offices, who ensured that all of the distractions, details and devils that would cause men who were moving fast, in fast company or due to be blindsided to keep everything pulled together. They also eased their personal stress about the things that they just could not do as they focused on whatever area of specialty for which they gained renown.

For instance, mothers would keep the household running, the children happy, healthy, focused and not resentful of absent fathers. Executive assistants would keep their eyes on the internal political landscape as they made sure that the bothersome details that didn't need personal attention were handled and all the ruffled feathers were smoothed.

These "helpmeet" positions were considered "biblical" and women were content to know that they were fulfilling this role, thankless as it was, because the societal standards appreciated it.

As the feminist revolution took place, these roles were denigrated and the battle of the sexes began; soon, men found as many enemies and competitors in their ambitious female supporters, domestic and professional, as they found in their male counterparts. The secularity, politics, anti-establishmentarianism - all contributed to a landscape that changed the nature of competition.

The saying still holds true; just remember it's a function of the "quality" (aka nature) of the woman.

I believe it's all to do with the man having a stable home life so he can be confident doing what he's doing .Not having the roller coaster distractions of emotional upheaval as a constant distraction I guess in some cases , the woman may work alongside the husband but that can be a disaster too....no escape!!! Not necessarily good to be together 24 /7 !!

It's 'Behind every succesful man is a GOOD woman'. A SUPPORTIVE woman.
The saying comes from a different age, when the husband worked and the wife took care of the home and the child-raising. It was very common then (unlike today), and it worked very well.

It does mean that when a man is successful. that there is a good woman who helps him. stands behind him, and backs him up.
It can be ment as a shot at men not being any good, but it can actually just mean that he has a woman who supports him, and helps him to suceed

I always thought it emphasised the importance of partnership. The whole listening, encouraging, supporting (in good and bad times) thing.
I know my wife happily stands behind me. Mostly when I'm doing stuff like lighting the BBQ with a bucket of kerosene!

Good luck in your quest to get a sensible answer.

well... that`s a hard one. just imagine that you have your own business. you like what you do, even if it`s very exhausting. a woman would make you fell confortable, give you some more ideas (not telling you, just making you think you had them), help you in every way she can without making a big thing out of it...
and the list goes on

Yes to all of your questions, and it could very well mean that "The man" was inspired by a certain kind of woman.

it means that men can not leave without women, witouh their advice, women are known for their manipulation, they can have whetever they want just because men are so weak, if women had power, life would be better in many fields, but even if women are not in the firt plan, they can help their men to do the best choice, and like we said in my country, good is woman, evil is women! make your choice!

She is your partner. She encourages you. You use her as your sounding board when things aren't so good. She probably puts up with alot of bullshit when you've had a bad day and you come home cranky but SHE IS ALWAYS THERE FOR YOU>
