I hope I'm not too late posting this!

First, you say your hamster has wet tail, is that because you can obviously see a messy, wet bottom?

Let me start, contrary to what most people think, wet tail is not a disease but a symptom. Wet tail is the term for diarrhea in hamsters. Diarrhea is fatal in hamsters due to the dehydration so the most important thing is to keep him hydrated.

There is an over the counter product that I have found to work better than any of the prescribtions the vet has given me. It is made by Oasis (Novalek) and called Wet Tail Treatment Plus with Probiotic. These are tablets that you put into the water bottle, follow the directions. My vet now tells other hamster owners to use this.

The Oasis product works so well because there are electrolytes in the the treatment to help keep the animal hydrated. I am not telling you not to go to the vet, on the contrary. Your vet can inject some subcutaneous fluids to help keep him hydrated as well.

If he is too weak, you may need to use an eyedropper and put a drop of the medicated water on the outside of his lips, one drop at a time.

He is not eating because he is sick and weak. You need to be more concerned about his fluid intake.

Well I have had two hamsters and they both got wet tail and died within two weeks of getting wet tail. If it is still eating and drinking it could be in the early stages and you should take it to the vet. it might have a chance if you do something about it now. Good luck.

Wet tail need immediate vet attention! There is a medicine to treat it, but only a few pet stores carry it, and it only works at the first signs of wet tail. Call the pet stores around you for more info about your pet's condition if you like; they might be able to give you more info, but a vet is your best chance for the little guys survival. Good luck!

He either has Wet Tale or diarrhea. Both of them are kinda the same and very dangerous if not treated immediately. A rodent usually looses much water and salt and can die within a day.

Get your hamster to the vet now! There is still time to save your little pet!

As you may or may have not guessed...your poor little hamster is seriously sick...with Wet Tail.

When I say seriously sick I mean DANGEROULY sick...my sisters hamster died from this as well as 4 of my friends.
(my hamster was too weak from it...hes in a better place.)

If your lucky...your hamster MAY have parasites...mine had the symptoms of Wet Tail but really had parasites.

Chances are...your not so lucky...

So TAKE YOUR PET TO THE VET RIGHT NOW IF IT IS LEFT UNTREATED YOUR PET WILL DIE FROM IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(o and btw...DONT put the medicine in the water...it makes it taste bad so they may die from dehydration...instead give the hamster medicine directly...YOUR HAMSTER MAY LOOK DEAD IF IT HAS A SERIOUS CASE OF WET TAIL AND CHANCES ARE IT IS DYING!)

Ask your doctor if u can give the hamster the drops directly...

GET YOUR HAMSTER TO THE VET NOW!

Go to a petstore NOW and get medicine for "wet tail". That's apparently what they call it. It's deadly in a very short time, so the quicker the better! Good luck!!

A wet tail to me would indicate diarrhea. You might call a vet ASAP.
