It all depends on how hard you want to work. I have a lawn service that I started 5 years ago. I could tell you all about that. I don't have any knowledge about car washes.
If you just want to make a little extra spending money, it would be easy to find a few residences to mow for $20-$30 apiece. Depending on where you live, most places need to be mowed every week at the very least. You could get by with a regular 22in. lawn mower and a weed eater. If you want to make more money, then you could start looking at business and apartment complexes. You will need better equipment for these and you will have to get their business which is another process. A few years ago, I put an ad in the newspaper and I received about 60-70 calls from people wanting their lawn mowed. It's not very difficult to find accounts.
I can help you out more if you're interested in a mowing business. Email me and and can give you a better understanding about starting.

I recommend mowing lawns because think about it; how many business's with a car washing company get people to come to them? I mean I've never seen anyone succeed. Their always beaten by those little drive-in places where you wash your own car. Also, mowing lawns is a great way to make money while still not being to far from home. You could cut your neighbors' lawns. It all depends on you :).
Hope this helps :)

Mowing lawns in the Spring when the grass grows the fastest and washing cars in the Summer when it's the warmest.
Make enough money to purchase several used lawn mowers and then get your neighborhood friends to work for you. You make the cut as their boss, and they get paid less than you.
You now have employees that have appointments to mow lawns at designated homes and you now own your own small business and the cash and or checks come to you. You then, pay the boys their cut.
I'm friends with a man who is now a billionaire in his 70's who is involved in several entrepreneurial business, and it is his story that he told me he did, at the age of 12.

Mowing lawns ; all you need is a mower and a can of gas. To wash cars you will need water, a hose, cleaner, sponges, towels and a place to wash them. Then you have to figure out how to get customers.
If you mow lawns you just go around the neighborhood and find customers.

They both are easy. The only thing is, though, with mowing lawns, you gotta take all your equipment to their house. If you don't have a car, it's a real killer. With Car Washing, they can come to your house...that is, if you don't mind a high water bill.

Why not try both and see for yourself? There's plenty of work out there, so rather than looking for "easier", I suggest you look for making the most money you can.......abundance mentality!
