I am a native English speaker, have German under my belt, and Russian on the way.

Once you get past the obvious differences in the language (including the very different alphabet) Russian is actually quite easy to learn and read. I'd actually hate to be a Russian learning English.

Learning and coming to understand how languages differ can help better understand the rules of ones native language.

I think it depends and what your first language is. I think that African language that involves the clicking noises would be pretty hard for an english speaking person to learn. I really want to learn Japanese because I love their culture and hope to spend a few years there at some point in my life

There in an African langauge that uses clicks and clacks of the tongue. It literally IS thehardest of all the languages in the world. Unless you learn as a baby to make some of the sounds it is phsycally impossible to learn to speak it. Science has proven this.

I believe the hardest language to master perfectly is Japanese, and it happens to be the one I want to learn, because I admire it and I believe once I have that, I've reached the summit.
