Hi people. I have owned two beautiful good luck Bonzai for over two years. They are bright green and sturdy. Recently I have noticed a white clunky film on my plants and the vases. I cleaned the plants, the vases, rocks and added fresh new water. Now my plants smell really bad. They have a cheesy rotten smell. Worse than the smelly water from a flower or rose vase. Is there anything I can do? I have had these plants in my office, living room, kitchen and have never come across this before. Any suggestions is appreciated!

What is the actual species of tree? Once that is determined, we should be able to answer your question. Hundreds of species of plants/trees are made into bonsai. If you wish, you may send email directly to
wchoat@american-bonsai.com . A photo would help greatly. Also check
www.american-bonsai.com I don't understand your comment about adding fresh water, does it have soil? Could this be "lucky bamboo" that grows in water rather than soil? We need to be more specific before your original question can be answered. You're welcome to email me.

Sounds like you may have a fungal disease. Unfortunately, since we cant see what you have, I would strongly suggest calling your local nursery about the problem, then about whether you can bring it in or not. All of the nurseries I have been to dont like bring in anything that is diseased since after all it can come in contact with their inventory. But, your best bet in this circumstance is to take it to a nursery. But it definetly sounds like you may have a fungal infection.
