You won't really damage the drawing but if you want it to look more like the drawing you should get it color laser copied. If you just photocopy it it will show up in black and white...meaning no gray tones.

There are two steps you can take depending on how detailed the picture is. First, you can buy canvas paper for your printer depending on the size of the drawing. Scan the picture and print it out. Second, If it is bigger than 8 x 10 or 11 x 14 then you can trace the picture on tracing paper with a marker. Once you do that take a stick of graphite and rub it on the back of the tracing paper. Next you will retrace the lines on the tracing paper on top of the canvas. If it is not totally clear on the canvas then you can go over it with pencil on the canvas once again. It really depends on how much detail in the picture there is and how artistic you are. Have fun.

The main thing is keeping it flat. so-
How Big Is Your Picture?
If it's fairly small (A4, foolscap) you can get a conventional flatbed scanner.
If it's bigger than that, you have 2 options:

1. Find a professional bureau, with a BIG scanner, or

2. Put it under glass, point lights from the side to avoid reflections, and take a photo.

Depends what you mean by copied. If you mean like they do in school , making 500 flyers and what, just stick it in a flat top copy machine... there's usually one at school's, libraries, and general stores. If it's too big for that, look to a local printer / copy shop

Go to your local store like wal-mart or giant and ask for the copy machine. If it is balck and white go to the balck and white copyer and if it is colored in go to the colored copy machine.Lay it on the clear copy screen in the corner after you lift the lid.Push copy and how many times you want it copied and it will copy and print them out on the one side.Don't forget your original one when your done!

Get it scanned or get a photo copy to preserve your work. Also, try to get the orginial laminated or get it framed at your first convenience to protect the original one from destroying.

Getting it copied in pencil would require another artist who would copy the sketch as it is for you. I hope it helps.

experiment with the setting for contrast on a xerox machine until all features are darkened but not "clogged" up" or muddied up by "scumming of the background!!this will give you a nice "dense"saturated blackness which will easily reproducefor photo offset, silkscreen or lithographic stone etching with acid or acid resist copper plate etching!!

IF you can't get ur hands on a copy machene, try a scanner. If you go to school ask your teacher, they usually have one in the staff room.
