I changed mine yesterday and its so much more appealing to the eye. Its the first time I changed it in 6 months, ahhhhhh change is good.

Not very often. I changed it to have a background of my wife holding my newborn son a couple of weeks ago. But, now I've changed it back.

As many times as you like. You won't hurt anything by changing the desktop backround. I've changed it several times in one evening.

Not very much, i have a really insane picture of my friend surfing and it always makes me look at the wave and the angle the photo was taken from underneat the curl of the wave.
