Was just looking for recent poll results and found this CBSnews poll for release tomorrow actually but I found it anyway.'

Poll results show Bush's approval rating increased after the SOTU address but only a little.
But the interesting thing is that Congress approval rating is worse than Bush's. And It went down.

Anyway congress is still heavily disapproved of. Also Nancy Pelosi even on approval disapproval %.

Oh, yeah? That's surprising, but really polls aren't a good indicator of what people think, despite what the liberals say. They can be skewed to represent whatever the asked wants them to show.

This poll is from early 2006. Not exactly what I would call "recent." Recent polls (the last 5 days) have him somewhere between 28% and 37%. But, it's a given that his numbers would edge up slightly after the SOTU.

The numbers in the poll you presented represent the Republican led Congress.

edit:
Even in the new poll this Congress fairs better than the Republican led Congress. It also shows 18% of Americans are smart enough to reserve judgement for a little while. Shouldn't we also wait at least a full month before branding them failures, or worse than the previous Congress?

This data is from February 2006, so it can't really be called "recent poll results". Not only that, but if you'd read the poll results you would have seen that Bush's approval rating was at "an all time low" of 34% in the most recent poll.

The congress was run by Republicans at the time of the polling, though I haven't seen any polls for the new Democrat controlled congress so I can't say if they are any more popular (probably not much).

Beyond the whole "2006-2007" thing, blah blah blah, it's almost a given the President's numbers would go up after a SOTU speech, where he gets to talk about how great things are and tell his side of the story, and everyone stands up and cheers every 43 seconds. Kinda like how each nominee in the presidential races gets a bounce after their conventions. As for Congress, whenever has the public liked them?

Last year's poll!

Usually goes up a little after a SOTU anyway. I think both are looked at wearliy,Bush especially. I also think a lot of what's left of the "conservtive front" is lying about the situation right now.

I haven't seen any post SOTU polls. The most recent CBS poll (2007) was at 28%, but that seemed inconsistent with other polls that had him in the mid 30's.

yeah i actually love this link. thanks. i can use it on some conservatives who claim bush is great. i think you looked at the poll wrong though. congress always, always has a low approval rating, but their approval rating is actually higher than bush's. and, it did go up since 2006, not down. and yes, pelosi's approval is low, but its still higher than newt's. this is actually an extremely informative poll, as most just give you numbers. nice job finding this one.

Most opponents of Bush that I talked to were at least satisfied with his SOTU. Most media pundits also approved

Polls can sometimes be misleading by the way the questions are worded. So I do not put much value in them just as I don't value much what movie critics say. Congress sways with the polls and it is obvious. You can't lead by following polls.
