A Prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving is a phenomenal book. It's funny, deep, interesting, and moving all at once. The description on the back is "Owen Meany, the only child of a New Hampshire granite quarrier, believes he is God's instrument. He is. This is John Irving's most comic novel; yet Owen Meany is Mr. Irving's most heartbreaking character."

The book is about this very small boy named Owen, but is told from his best friend's point of view, John Wheelwright. The two of them are completely different people, but they're the best of friends.

I first heard of this book at a reading I went to to see J. K. Rowling, but there, John Irving read a very funny part of the book, and I immediately fell in love with it. I make constant references to the book in conversation and anybody who knows me can tell that it's my favorite book.

I highly recommend this book!!! It keeps you reading, and keeps you thinking even when you've finished. =)

The Stand by Stephen King. Just superb, had me gripped all the way through.
Bit scary at times, but a superb read. Been made into a movie too. No-where near as good as the book mind, but ok.
