My Sister lives in Mineral Wells..having BIG problems with room mate. She's moving out right this minute and refuses to pay any of the household bills that are due. My sister wants to know if she has a legal right to hold the room mates things untill her part of the debts are paid. Real ugly situation. Thanks for your answers!

She has a legal right to hold things IF she has a written agreement with the roomate. That's what will stand up in court.

If she doesn't have something in writting, it will be her word against the roomates word. Then she would probably be in trouble for holding things.

No. Not unless your sister wants to be arrested for theft. Have her take her claim to small claims court to get any money owed.
