Sounds great. You might want to add a sash or something in a pastel color like blue or pink. Ann Taylor was doing this at Christmas. They had these gorgeous satin dress and they put a sash around the waist in a contrast color. Looked great. I love brown and light blue together.

Lighter. March is Spring time. You want to be in something "springy". Maybe try a blue dress, the brown is more of a fall color.

Brown is fine for March. If you're still worried, try adding a splash of color with your accessories, pale pink looks great with chocolate brown.
