I am a 18 yrs old, i got married december 2006, i got some scholarships last year and worked part time for almost 8 months (6.00 p/h), but my husband is thinking on claiming me as his dependent because he makes more money than he should for a one person (40 k's ). Do you think I should file for myself and the scholarships or let my husband do whatever he wants?

It really doesn't matter since you are married. Your form will want you to specify married filing jointly or married filing separately. The IRS looks at it as taxation from one source because you are married. My brother-in-law files as head of household and claims his wife as a dependent although she makes about 25K/year. Best bet - as soon as you can get into your own home, do it.

Well first of all, you can't claim a spouse as a dependent, so what's he's thinking of doing, he can't do.

Your best bet is to file a joint return. You can each file as married filing separately if you want to, but it will almost surely cost you extra in taxes in total between you.

since your married you only have two options.

1. you can file jointly which you should since youll get a larger deduction.

2. You can choose to file married filing separate
