Spybot is a good program for some issues, but generally not for a true virus. My advice is to go to Grisoft and have them do a scan, and destroy from their site. You could also get a disk made at some other computer with their anti virus program called AVG on it, and run that program from your CD/DVD drive to scan for, and destroy the virus. The ultimate way is to format your drive. That is the absolute last resort. If your computer is a Dell, I would advise caution though because of how they write computer set up files to the hard drive. A format would wipe that out. Go to Grisoft, I believe that they can help you. You can get their latest version for free. The draw back to that is that you have no support for future upgrades. The free version will allow you to see if the program does the job for you, and if you like it, then buy it and have their free upgrades as they come out.

If you are running windows xp you may try to do a system restore if that doesnt work then I suggest you go to one of the spyware and antivirus sites and download the newest free version possible, downloads.com is a good site, if you cant get your computer to boot up then you may need some proffesional help if you have data that you dont mind loosing, (hopefully you have everything backed up, which everyone should do) then you can reformat the hard drive back to where it was when you purchased it from the factor, Good Luck

im a poor student and i have used dell on-call support, they are SO worth the 99 dollars. pay it and consider it a good lesson. note, call before 5pm central time and your chances are better for getting a technicion fluent in english, rather than one of the techs from india. and be prepared to spend about 2 hours.
EDIT... also, you should be aware that out of all these virus progams being mentioned... you should NEVER have more than ONE installed on your computer at a time. you may have more than one spyware program, but the virus scanners will attack each other and cause problems

Hi Diane,
I can't tell you how to fix your machine without seeing some logs. Follow my instructions here: http://malwaremedic.suddenlaunch3.com/index.cgi?board=Logs&action=display&num=1135140266
When done, post the logs for: HijackThis, AVG Anti-Spyware and Panda ActiveScan.
After that, re-run HijackThis and post a new log. At that point, we will manually take care of anything Panda may point out.
My help is free. Donations are accepted, but not required. :)
Best regards,
Windsor

Look around, some computer places will fix something like that for 50 bucks. But...I had a bad virus on my computer and I took it where I had warrenty. My computer had crashed and they had to redo the whole laptop. Sometimes taking it to the place where you purchased it is better.
