Forget about a print router or print server.

If you have a Cable or DSL modem (broadband internet): All you need is a wireless router to go BETWEEN your main computer and your cable or DSL modem. Setup the printer to be shared by running the network setup wizard and allowing through the firewall on the main computer. You must have the SAME logon id and password on both computers. Your laptop will need a wireless interface, so if it dont have it now, go to the store and buy one for $20-$30. On your laptop, search the local zone for shared printers. Double click to install it. You can now surf the net AND print to the printer downstairs at the same time. Note: The main computer needs to be turned on for you to be able to print.

If you have a regular dial modem on the main computer, then everything is the same, but you need to check if you have an ethernet port on the main computer. If you dont, they can be purchased for $20-$30 at the store. NOTE: You will NOT be able to surf the net on your laptop unless the main computer is connected to the internet, and routing is enabled.

Make sure you turn ON wireless security on your router and laptop, or else all your neighbors will use your internet connection for going to porn sites.

Depending on the network setup, you could get a wireless print server, http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/category/category_slc.asp?CatId=371

You will need an existing WiFi network or you will need to set one up (provided your laptop has wireless capabilities or you will need to install that too). Once you have the wireless network and your laptop enabled for wireless connectivity, you will be able to use the wireless print server to connect directly to the printer. Note, you may need a USB hub in order to connect the printer to both the desktop(s) and the print server.

Share the printer from your computer that is directly connected to the printer. Then you should be able to connect to it from any computer on your workgroup. Go to add printer, select network printer, browse and you should see it
