Only if your vehicles owners manual states it is required. The overwhelming majority of cars don't "need" higher octane fuel.

The name Premium is a misnomer. What is being called Premium fuel is actually gasoline with a higher octane level. The only reason that octane is important is that vehicles with a high cylinder compression level may prematurely ignite gasoline with a low octane level. (The fuel ignites without spark under high compression and causes the engine to "knock") Vehicles with standard compression levels will not benefit in any way from higher octane fuel. It will not "clean" the injectors, or "boost" the horsepower, or do anything that can be measured. Putting premium gas in a regular car is a total waste of money....kind of like washing your car with bottled water.

Premium fuel doesn't burn "hotter, cleaner, etc" the octane rating actually refers to how slow the fuel burns. The higher the octane the slower it burns. There is such thing as 120 octane gas, some airplanes use it. It is only necessary if you have a high compression engine (ie you modified the pistons or heads) or it has forced induction like a turbocharger or supercharger.

octane is an added agent that is used to reduce the possibility of pre-ignition or detonation It does not burn hotter It is required in high compression engines to keep the fuel from igniting while being compressed

If you have a high compression engine, yes. Octane is actually a pre-ignition retardent. Using lower octane fuel in a high compression engine will cause pre-ignition and pinging, just like a diesel engine.

Higher octane does not mean better or cleaner fuel.

Depends on the engine. My husband's camaro has an LT1 in it, so premium fuel is necessary.

yes and no. Premium fuel just burns hotter. And in my opinion just a waste of money sometimes. U can do regular or plus if you wanted.

if your car calls for like 93 octane yes get it. You may save on gas in the short hall but usually your car will start to run really crappy and you will get very bad gas mileage. So dont cheat!

I just recently found that putting premiem gas in my truck increased the milage by one third. I was very suprised to find this and it was only by a fluke that I did.. seeing that I spend 120.00 weekly I was glad to learn this. its actually saving me 35.00 a week. it cost more to fill the tank but I am going a lot farther.
