I have been a big online gamer for years and my newest pc is a p4 3.0 ghz(no pci express)...

I have always bought pentium, but never got AMD,even though I always hear AMD is the better gaming processor.(how true is this?)

I was wondering, what the best gaming processor would be ;duo core or amd fx?

Also what is the best out of these : duo core extreme or AMD FX x2?

I am about to spend some good money on another really good gaming pc and dont wanna regret it after I buy it. Thanks in advance for your answers all:)

Neither, purchase the Core2Duos, its alot better than p4, Dual Core (D proccesors) or AMD FX x2 and best for gamings. I heard it also plays XBOX and PS2 backuos and demos at full speeds unlike p4s and Dual Cores.

Well, AMD used to be the top gaming pc as of Q2 2006 and earlier. I have done TONS of studying on all of this, the Core 2 Duo processors are FAR better than even the AMD FX x2 processors. It's kinda' like comparing a p4 to the AMD64 processors...the AMD's were about 20-35% faster. But now it's the other way around, the Core 2 Duo is about 20-35% faster than the new AMD processors. Get the Core 2 Duo.

In our WorldBench 5 test suite, Intel's Core 2 Duo reference system outscored a matching system equipped with AMD's high-end Athlon 64 FX-62 chip by 17 percent. We also tested shipping PCs based on several chips in the Core 2 Duo family, including a water-cooled, overclocked ABS machine that posted a mark of 181 on our WorldBench 5 test--the highest WorldBench score we've ever seen.
