Alot of states say that the work force is stronger and people that really want jobs are now getting them.

They say affirmative action is racist and people should get thru college and get their jobs because they are the best suited for the job and they have better skills. Than just being hired because of your color.

Are business's and economy doing better in your area?

How do you feel about this?

Business and the economy are great in my area and in a few other areas I've been. I believe that a person should be hired based on their merits and on individual achievement, and not because of the color of their skin. I recognize that there may still be some situations where a minority has a few more hurdles to overcome (mainly due to socioeconomical factors), but they are overcomeable, and these situations typically make the individual more impressive as a person. If it is shown a business did have an issue with discriminating previously, then they should probably be required to have some sort of affirmative action. Otherwise, the better man/woman should get the job.

Affirmative action IS racism. The company ends up hiring someone based on their race or gender instead of credentials. How anyone can say that isn't racism doesn't make sense to me.
Hiring should be at the company's discretion - most qualified gets the job. Should discrimination be allowed? No, a company should not be able to turn you down for a job just because you're a minority. But they shouldn't hire you just because you're a minority, either.

Certainly affirmative action is discriminatory. Everything should be equal opportunity for all. If you have the skills, better than someone else, you should get the job. Not based on your skin color.

What I notice is that some want to be considered equal, except when it comes to having to do the work to get it the same as everyone else. Then they (some) want special treatment and handouts. These types of people come in all colors. I have to go back to work now so I can feed someone else's children.

I haven't heard any news on this Josh, but it certainly makes sense. Personally I would have to take a pass on a black doctor because I would be very concerned that he only got his medical degree because of the color of his skin. A job applicant should be hired according to his or her abilities, not their skin color.

wow diana is angry.... i think in this day and age we don't need affermative action. Although i still hear people < who didn't live in those times by the way> say whites still owe them something. My dr is black, so what? he went to school and EARNED his profession, jsut like any other doctor. My child's doctor is japanese, and my husband is korean. i don't believe it needs to be a black, white yellow or anyother color issue. it's who decided to educate and prepare themselves for the future and who did not. and please don't scream about money to me, i am 26 and still paying off student loans.

Maybe you are right. I see what your agenda is- but please, intelligent people always come up with numbers or data from credible sources! Now, following your own style, I'd say that co-ops do much better than huge corporations. Why are we so capitalistic?

i agree but then i disagree, if you get rid of affirmative action completely you will have people who will not hire a black, even if they have good credentials because they think white can do better, whether they are racist or not!!!!
