I spent ALOT of time creating my avatar. I am a swimmer and a gymnast so thats one of the factors I had to settle for when I created it. My hair is really different from anything on there therefore I couldn't find an exact hair style,so I put one I liked. That's the thing that bothers me. I'm Asian so I picked a darker skin tone. The outfit I have on looks exactly like something I would wear which is a plus. And every Thursday I go back to the main avatar page and check whats new because I like it to look more and more like me. One of the things I wished yahoo avatars had is a separate section for shoes because some of the shoes are kinda ugly.

I didn't think their were enough choices. Their was not that much of a variety of skin tones, and only a few of the outfits are actually what i would wear. You cannot change your height, so if you are really tall or short, it would be something no one would be able to know, unless that person has seen you one on one. I don't think the faces have much to chose from either. Say you wear heavy make-up (or maybe none at all) and it is not really you if that factor doesn't show. Although i do think that a lot of what they do have its cool.
I love all the different hair styles, and their are so many backgrounds.

I actually tried to make it look as much like me as I could. It was a losing battle. I see people are having much more success putting something alluring and mysterious or funny up. If I cared enough about it, I would do the same.
If you are asking for a school project, or personal research, I would go through Yahoo! and make it formal. You could open yourself up to legal trouble otherwise.
You sounds like you might be a clinician of some sort, maybe a Sociologist. I would make it an official research project and get the green light from Yahoo! if I were you.

My current avatar is actually a "self-portrait" art piece that I did about 25 years ago. It shows my conflicted nature, pulled in opposite directions. True then, true now!
My other Y!A avatar looks pretty much like I do (with less grey hair!!) and dresses like I do -- currently is sporting a "hybrid" green T-shirt because I am eco-conscious and have a hybrid Civic. The penguins are just cause I love the silly birds, the butterfly because I used to catch them when I was young and are a secret signal between me and my mom (well, I guess not so secret ANYMORE -- lol!).

My avatar reflects my real me. I am cool calm and collected. I am confident, yet allow some doubt to keep me in check. I seek perfection, yet intentionally I allow some chaos to be part of my life. I am pragmatic yet I tend to understand dreamers.
I take life as it comes, maybe that is why I am lucky that creating my avatar was not that difficult.
Cheers!

My avatar shows generally what I look like and how I dress, but I'm older than the avatars reflect and not as slim. I incorporate backgrounds that I am usually in, like the library where I work or my office in the library or my home. My avatar shows more of my personality than my actual appearance.

I don't like mine that much, but she'll do for now. I agree that there weren't enough choices and it was frustrating to pick the avatar's features and background only to find that she was cropped and you couldn't even see the big black panther I chose! I sort of wanted her to resemble me but the avatars are too standardized -- and I do not look like Barbie or Skipper. I liked those naked avatars that some folks posted (they were promptly removed, however). They were funny!

The avatar skincolor is not lifelike to me . I am lighter and have more gold tones than this crap. I think for the most part the avatar looks like me. It was missing a few things though. I hate the selection of shoes.. THEY ARE UGLYYYYYYY LOL!!!

Good question! I applaud you! My avatar says I want to do some things. I have a snowboard but I don't snowboard in real life. In real life, I have a goatee. You couldn't put one on there!

It says I'm male and wear a ball cap regularily, which I am, and I do.
Other than that, I didn't like that some of the options were...restricted/limited.
