how would i know if a ddr memory is compatible with my pc? im planning on upgrading i want to be sure its the same

If you still have the book for your motherboard, look in there.

Go to the website of the motherboard manufacturer and check it out there.

If you bought your computer as a bundled system like Dell, then just check the documentation you have for the computer or go to the website and look it up for your computer.

If you combine different frequencies the memory will run at the lowest speed, in your example adding 1600mhz alongside 1333mhz will result in the memory running at 1333mhz. different brands shouldn;t cause a problem but I'd suggest getting the same brand if possible.

If you have a name brand PC, the easiest way to configure memory upgrades is to use www.crucial.com.
