It has been that way for centuries because men went out and hunted while women stayed home and took care of the house and children

Traditionally women took care of the home and the man went to work, hunt and gather or to war.
Women nurture while men fight and protect. In today's society these roles have blended out of necessity. This may be a good in some ways so men and women better understand and cooperate with each other.

it came from when women stayed home and took care of the house and the men went out and worked.
the men were the ones who (thought they) had all the answers.
women couldn't vote, get involved in politics, an some were not even allowed in a town unless they were with a male of the household. (dad, brother, uncle or husband)
during world war 2-- when the men went to war, the women had to take over a lot of the jobs that the men had done up to that point.

My husband and I have a deal. I do the work inside and he does the work outside (except for planting flowers in the garden). I don't want him doing housework because I always have to hear "well I did the laundry and washed the floors" ect, ect, ect. Like he deserves a medal for any little thing. Plus he doesn't sort the laundry...just throws it all in together. You can't really screw up mowing the lawn.

Because traditionally it was the women who use to stay home the most, and it was considered their job to do. Men do equally amount of chores at home now days.

I think traditionally men worked the fields, or hunted, and were away from the home (imagine hunting parties, or men being sent off to fight wars), while women stayed closer, foraged for fruit, nuts and berries and kept the children close by.

Smartass response: Cause we will actually DO it. :)
My 7-year old wise-mouth daughter (not sure where she gets it)...but she was watching the news with me when they were talking about Hillary running for President. This is how the conversation went:
Daughter: Mommy, if we have a woman President, does that mean we get to do less work around the house?
Me: Sorry sweetie, it does not work that way.
Daughter: Well heck...that's how it SHOULD be!!

Sure, but, do you stand on tradition, or do you stand on staying up with the times. Listen Ozzy, I'm sure Harriet was happy at one time but times changed. Men are now sometimes found to be house husbands, role reversal! I don't go to the extremes on either case and am somewhere in the middle. I do, my wife does, we do.... Everything is as it should be.
