Well the death penalty is always a good one.
Abortion is also another one.

I pick these because I'm a Criminal Justice major and learned that the death penalty and abortion is always up for debate.

This of course depends on your interests, but for me a good issue for an arguement paper might be "Has the government gone to far taking away your right to choose?" In todays world, this subject concerns mostly anti-terrorism measures, but it also includes such area's as madatory seatbelt laws, smoking bans in bars and restaurants as well as other area's and a whole range of other issues. Now I agree with some of these government mandated laws, but what about your rights under the constitution? Shouldn't you have the right to choose under the 9th amendment and others if you own a bar or restaurant what kind of atmosphere you want. If you want a smoking establishment shouldn't you have the right to have one? If you are against smoking, you have the right not to frequent the establishment. The same argument could apply to seatbelts, helmets for motorcycles etc... Certainly, these save lives, but shouldn't you have the right to choose? Another question might be, do you have the right to die, if you are in sound mind, but ravaged by disease, shouldn't you have the right to choose?

These are all controversial issues. Other not so controversial issues might be, should school be extended to a year round format? School uniforms? Should the government tell you what you can or cannot sell in vending machines at school? Don't you have the right to decide what you wish to eat even if it might not be as healthy as some other product?

Just some thoughts. Best of luck with your project.

Well basically you want to write about something that interests you, it will make it easier to argue. Remember in an argumentative essay you are trying to convince your audience of your thesis.

A few ideas that I have are as followed and they are from students work:

Cell phones should be permitted in the classroom

School should only be 3 or 4 days week

The drinking age should be lowered to 18 years old (since you are considered an adult

Those are just a few that my students picked because they are things they thought very strongly about and came up with great arguments supporting their ideas...Good luck

I recently did an argumentation essay on the impact of Hispanics in America. The subject was chosen for me, but I found it really easy to research, there were a lot of resources available and statistics. Information was not difficult to come by... There are a lot of different avenue's you can choose from to narrow your argument such as education, economics or income and employment, immigration. I did originally plan to include crime, prison and the money spent... but I found that there is very little information on Hispanics in prisons, they are often clumped with Caucasian to single out the African American population.
